Welcome to the inny kayakers association (IKA) website ! Based in Ballymahon Co. Longford, on the river Inny, the inny kayakers association are drawn from a large catchment of local paddlers. The inny provides a c.4km stretch of prime paddling real estate with rapids containing some pour-overs, stoppers, holes and standing waves. It is the only stretch of water of this type in the midlands area. It provides the perfect run for beginners and experienced paddlers alike. The inny kayakers association pride themselves on promoting safe paddling in line with the governing body, the Irish Canoe Union (ICU) safety guidelines and training structure. IKA french alps June 09Welcome back to IKA paddlers Irene and Emmet after their french alps adventure 09.
A great week had and ICU level 4 skills awards in the bag for both!

IKA Clubhouse Phase 1 is done !Phase 1 of the new IKA Clubhouse is now done and dusted. Its a credit to all involved and the club as a whole.
The Phase 2 fund raising is now underway to finish the internal.
Child Protection Policy Course - Sat 07th Feb 09Well done to all who took the time to attend the Child Protection Policy course. The Irish Canoe Union Child Protection Policy is an integral component of the ICU's overall Code of Ethics & Conduct. Members should familiarise themselves with same and attend a similiar course whenever the opportunity arises. For more information see www.canoe.ie and see Here for the ICU Policy document which the IKA support and all members must adhere too.

IKA 2008 highlights2008 IKA paddling has been a busy one for the club as it grows from strength to strength. A few worthy mentions on what IKA members have been up to over the year.
Congrats to IKA paddler Alex Stanley on being awarded the ICU Kayak Skills Level 5 and congrats to IKA paddler Dave Donnelly on being awarded the ICU Level 3 Instructor. A very well done to the lads from all IKA members.
As well as the usual all year round Sunday am paddling sessions and the Summer season Wednesday & Thursday pm paddling sessions and of course home trips to exotic Easkey, Wicklow, The Boyne, Enniscrone, The Deel and Achill during 2008, some worthy mentions of the IKA members who took their paddles abroad during 2008 including, Alex Stanleys trip to the French Alps/Italy, Owen Feeneys trip to Norway, the first ever foreign whitewater trip for the lads, Trevor Parker, Emmet Devereux, Irene Nooney & Ray O'Reilly to the French Alps and of course Bob, Glyn, Alex, Edel, Irene, Trevor, Emmet, Shane, Sinead and Pavlin's recent club trip to Wales. Well done to all for flying the IKA flag on foreign rivers !
Well done to IKA paddlers John O'Rourke, Rory Moorehead & Adam on their impressive 5th place finish in the canadian three of the 2008 Liffey Descent.
A well done to the IKA Thursday evening paddlers who have pretty much paddled every lake and watercourse in Co. Westmeath over the 2008 summer season and of course a big welcome to the newest IKA members who completed the IKA summer introduction to kayaking course and have decided to keep it up and join the madness!
Of course the big news of 2008 is that the new IKA clubhouse is well on its way to completion. Cheers to Bob for driving that along. We are all looking forward to the hot showers !!
As we head into 2009 we look forward to great paddling, good laughs, trips away, thrills & spills, learning new skills and as always staying safe. Happy Paddling.

RSR1 Day (River Safety & Rescue)
Well done to IKA paddlers, Irene, Edel, Trevor, Emmet, Sinead, Pavlin, Shane & Adian on attending the RSR1 Course on the Inny 15th Nov 08. Cheers to Dave D for organising and big thanks to Alex for a great course which thought all paddlers new safety techniques, highlighted the importance of proper safety gear and the appropriate training on its use & of course promoting safer paddling. The course gave all attendees alot of new info to soak up and consider. Now get out and practise what you learnt!
